This traditional seven-bowl offering set, known locally as Tings, is used in Tibetan Buddhist daily offering practice. Each morning, the bowls are respectfully filled and offered on the altar, and the offerings are removed at sunset.
Making offerings with a sincere and mindful heart cultivates generosity, devotion, and a deep connection to the Buddha’s teachings. This practice helps reduce attachment, greed, and miserliness, while accumulating merit on the path to awakening.
Traditionally, the seven bowls represent the seven offering substances:
water for drinking, water for bathing, flowers, incense, light, perfume, and food. In many practices, all seven bowls are filled with water, which is visualized as pure nectar that delights the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
Simple yet profound, this daily ritual supports mental clarity, compassion, and spiritual discipline.
