This buddha japa mala is made from freshly harvested Bodhi seeds, also known as Buddha Chitta. Because the seeds are newly collected and recently strung, the beads appear light and natural in color. With regular prayer, meditation, and use, the beads slowly darken and develop a rich aged tone over time.

Bodhi seed malas have long been used in Buddhist practice for mantra chanting, meditation, and mindful prayer. They are associated with awakening and the path of wisdom.

These seeds are natural, unaltered and carefully selected. Smaller Bodhi seeds are traditionally considered more rare and valuable. Most beads in this mala range between 10 mm and 11 mm, with none larger than 11.9 mm. The Guru bead is larger and features the natural four eyed pattern, if you prefer smaller guru beads we can certainly get that for you as well.

Because Bodhi seeds are natural, each mala is unique. Slight variations in bead color, size, and length are normal. Lighting during photography may also cause differences in color appearance. For a clearer view, we have also uploaded a video taken in natural light.

Also note that each bead is traditionally rubbed a bit near the hole so the mala aligns properly and sits straight rather than appearing zig zag.
